Confirmation meeting for all students who are in the tenth grade or higher will be monthly. We will also have mandatory retreats scheduled. We ask that no class be missed or retreat be missed.
Students wishing to be confirmed must attend the edge programs on wednesday night if they are 6th, 7th, 8th grades and high school students must attend the life nights on Sunday evening following the evening mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Seven important things to remember:
1. Confirmation students are expected to go to mass every Sunday. Sunday Worship is the most effective way of opening our hearts and minds ot the grace God and discovering the power of the Spirit workign in and through us daily. The Eucharist is where we are fed by the hand of God himseld. There is no substitute. Not going to mass is like choosing to eat out of the dumpster when a gourmet meal as been prepared. Sunday Eucharist is necessary.
2. We will need a copyof the baptismal record for each student seekign to be confirmed. Please geta new copy of the baptismal record by calling the churhc of baptism and requesting one. Bring it to class and give it to Fr David.
3. SPONSOR: Your student needs to have a good idea of who they will be choosing as a sponsor for confirmation. This person must have already received Confirmation and be a fully active Catholic (meaning that they go to mass weekly, etc) This person cannot be a parent, however, although a sibling or close family member other than a parent is allowed.
4. CONFIRMATION NAME: Your student needs to have selected a confirmation saint name, or at least have a few good ideas of who they will choose. Please investigate a saint and why they speak to you
5. INTERVIEW: Your student needs to schedule an interview with Fr. David sometime in the spring of the confirmation. This interview is a chance for the teen to get to ask some questions one-on-one with Father, and for father to also see if the teen is properly prepared to receive the Sacrament.
6. SERVICE HOURS: Your teen needs to be collecting service hours. We ask that students serve in the parish as well as community as they prepare for Confirmation. They need at least 20 hours of service. Working at festivals or various fund raisers for the organizations of the church or school count as service hours. Also, participating at the Sunday mass by serving at the altar or reading will count as service hours as well. Please check with Fr David: frdvdbrgr@gmail.com
LIVING STATIONS: Your teen will also be expected to help with our Living Stations of the Cross on Good Friday each year at OLG. Also they will be expected to attend sudnay night youth nights at OLG in conjunction with the monthly meetings.
7.The Sacrament of Confessions
Confirmation Candidates are asked to go to celebrate the sacrament of confession prior to celebrating confirmation.
